Annabell Willis: Roseberry Topping

As author Neil Gaiman said about the Arts: “The urge, starting out, is to copy. And that’s not a bad thing. Most of us only find our own voices after we’ve sounded like a lot of other people. But the one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can.” Keeping this in mind, I don’t normally deliberately go about reproducing popular landscape views in photography, if possible I prefer to find my own take on a place if I can. However, that’s not quite so easy when looking at Roseberry Topping, its such an inspirational view that unsurprisingly its been taken many times by many people from many angles. So whilst I wouldn’t personally class this as my own original image, given it was heavily influenced by Joe Cornish, I am still pretty pleased how it turned out. I am also classing it as part of my photographic journey, my humble homage to Joe and the brilliant work he does, and maybe one day if I am even anywhere near that good a photographer, Ill be very happy indeed.
